A video has surfaced from Jimmy’s previous life when he was doing a skit on Saturday Night Live in the form of a Blackface. While it is pretty safe to say that no famous person is immune to being “cancelled” especially with the force the internet carries. And late night host Jimmy Fallon is no exception. The much loved host for late night is probably on the way to being cancelled as he is facing extreme backlash for portraying blackface a couple of decades ago.

Here’s the stitch – Before Jimmy was Jimmy and he got his on talk show, he was a comedian on Saturday Night Live  and in 2000, he performed a skit on the show impersonating Chris Rock. While that does not sound bad, wait until you find out that his skin was darkened considerably to resemble that of a black man and the texture of his hair was changed too.

Let us be clear, impersonating Blackface is never acceptable no matter how many years before it was conducted. Which is why people have started tweeting the hashtag #JimmyFallonIsOverParty and lo and behold it is already trending. Understandably, people are disappointed and some are downright angry. On a general day, Jimmy is loved and his show pulls in a considerable number of viewers.

Jimmy while being quick on his feet apologized over a tweet, “In 2000, while on SNL, I made a terrible decision to do an impersonation of Chris Rock while in blackface,” he wrote in a statement. “There is no excuse for this. I am very sorry for making this unquestionably offensive decision and thank all of you for holding me accountable.”

NBC or the network which hosts The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live is yet to comment on the matter.
